Globalstar Expands Distribution Of SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger

December 14, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Globalstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: GSAT) has signed agreements with Globalstar independent gateway operator, TESACOM, to launch distribution of the SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger in Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay.

SPOT uses a revolutionary combination of satellite messaging and GPS location based technology to provide an unparalleled level of peace-of-mind for consumers who spend time in the outdoors or who simply want to stay connected. The handheld device determines a user’s GPS location coordinates and transmits that location and the user’s status using the Globalstar satellite network. In an emergency, SPOT can send a message including the user’s GPS coordinates to an emergency response call-centre. SPOT’s web tracking functionality visually tracks the geographic locations of the unit using Google Maps.

The SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger has been credited with initiating the rescue of more than 450 persons worldwide and has been used to send more than 10 million user status and tracking messages since being introduced in November of 2007. The product has also received numerous global industry awards including The Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award for 2008 in the category of consumer electronics.
