EAST LANSING – Michigan State’s season is over and players are shopping around.

Junior guard Tre Holloman entered the portal on Tuesday and redshirt freshman guard Gehrig Normand is doing the same by announcing it on Instagram.

Holloman putting his name in came as a surprise given he was a co-captain and one of the team’s top players before the Spartans finished a 30-win season with a 70-64 Elite Eight loss to Auburn on Sunday in Atlanta.

Normand looking for a new opportunity is much less of a shock. The former four-star recruit from Texas didn’t play while taking a redshirt as a true freshman last year and logged only 26 minutes in 13 games this season with eight points. A preseason knee injury derailed his progress and Normand was never part of the regular playing rotation.

Michigan State is losing a trio of seniors out of eligibility in guard Jaden Akins, wing Frankie Fidler and center Szymon Zapala. Freshman guard Jase Richardson, who is being projected as a first-round pick in this year’s NBA draft, said Sunday he would talk to his family and coaches before making a decision about his future.

There could be others who follow Holloman and Normand into the portal this offseason. The Spartans will add a pair of recruits after four-star wings Jordan Scott and Cam Ward officially signed in November.
