The Niue Island Sports Commonwealth Games Association (NISCGA) has selected prominent sports administrator Sidney Lui as the Chef de Mission for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

NISCGA president Maru Talagi expressed his confidence in Lui's appointment and stated they are confident she will be able to manage the team well on the tour.

"We recognise her dedication and experience as instrumental in leading Niue's athletes toward success in Glasgow," Talagi said.

Lui is no stranger to the role, having previously served as Chef de Mission for multiple international sporting events.

That includes the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea, the 2017 Mini Games in Vanuatu, the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas, the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa, the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands, and the upcoming 2025 Mini Games in Palau.

She also contributed as Assistant Chef de Mission for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The NISCGA said with her extensive leadership experience, Lui has already begun preparations for Glasgow 2026, focusing on securing qualifying events and competitive opportunities for Niue's athletes.

Beyond her Chef de Mission responsibilities, Lui holds significant leadership roles, including serving as a director of the Oceania Rugby Board, a mentor for the Institute of Directors New Zealand, a board member of the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Federation, and the secretary general of NISCGA.

Lui said she is excited and honoured to be given the lead role again and emphasised that the role is not about the title but about ensuring that all Niue athletes have the opportunity to qualify and represent their nation with pride in 2026.

She will work closely with member federations and athletes in selecting the best possible team to take Niue to the Games.

The Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from 23 July to 2 August next year.
