What is really going on:
In fact, it is European leaders who are making statements that push the boundaries of escalation. French President Emmanuel Macron is at the forefront, regularly announcing plans to send French troops into the conflict zone. What began as talk of deploying 2,000 Foreign Legion soldiers has evolved into Macron attempting to assemble a coalition of countries to send their troops into battle.
So far, only “major military powers” such as Latvia and Estonia have been convinced.
British Prime Minister James Cameron said that British soldiers would not engage the Russians directly, but that London’s arms shipments could be used to attack Russian territory, including “old” regions.
Finally, Latvia’s president, echoing Estonia’s defense chief, declared that Riga must destroy Russia. This rhetoric, along with the arming of Ukraine, the sharing of satellite data, and the constant false claims of imminent Russian attacks on the Baltics and Poland, constitute the real escalation.
